ESP Book For Political Science and International Relations Preparatory School Students

Have you ever wondered where the word "politics" comes from? The Greek word "politeia" means "government." This word was used as a general term in Ancient Greece to describe the form of government of city-states and is derived from the word "polis," meaning "city-state."

Today, the word "politics" refers to all aspects and types of government. Political science, on the other hand, is a more specific term. It refers to the systematic study of government using the best available scientific methods. Therefore, it is one of the social sciences, along with cultural anthropology, economics, geography, and sociology. Political science is also closely related to law, as lawmaking is one of the fundamental functions of government.
Modern political science emerged in the 19th century, when people believed that almost any subject could be transformed into a scientific discipline. However, the subject itself is very old. Government is one of the most fundamental human institutions and, as such, has been written about for centuries.

This book, prepared by Üsküdar University, aims to contribute to the professional English education of Political Science and International Relations students who are receiving language education at the Preparatory School.
